Drivers’ licence cards received, issuing should be regularised: State Minister

As the much needed cards for issuing drivers' licences have reached, issuing them should be done promptly, Transport State Minister Lasantha Alagiyawanna said.

This was revealed during a discussion with officials from the Sri Lanka Army and Department of Motor Traffic (DMT) on expediting the introduction of the demerit point system for issuing driver's licences.

It was decided to connect the DMT district offices with online technology. Moreover, the discussions also included matters on conducting written examinations through online.

The Minister also said that considering the above activities as special tasks and advising them to be expedited promptly, it was also decided to accelerate issuing driving licenses including the demerit point system with the consent of the relevant parties. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
