Dr. Sulakshana Jayawardena appointed acting Chairman of BOI



Colombo, April 8 (Daily Mirror) - Dr. Sulakshana Jayawardena has been appointed as the Acting Chairman of the Board of Investment (BOI) of Sri Lanka, the institution announced.

A senior member of the Sri Lanka Administrative Service (SLAS) with over 23 years of experience, Dr. Jayawardena brings extensive expertise in public administration, policy formulation, and large-scale project management.

He is widely recognized for his contributions to the power and energy sector, where he has played a key role in advancing renewable energy development, improving energy conservation, and supporting rural electrification projects. He has also contributed to shaping strategic policies and regulatory frameworks governing the country’s energy sector.

In addition to his sectoral achievements, Dr. Jayawardena has demonstrated strong leadership in human resources, development, and administration, with a track record of managing complex government projects while maintaining a focus on stakeholder engagement and service delivery.

Academically, he holds a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), along with a Master’s in Business Studies from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, a Bachelor’s degree in Science from the University of Peradeniya, and specialized diplomas in Medical Laboratory Technology, Information Technology, and Professional Diplomacy and World Affairs.

As Acting Chairman, Dr. Jayawardena is expected to support the BOI’s efforts to attract high-quality foreign direct investment and promote a business-friendly environment. His appointment comes as the BOI continues to modernize its processes and strengthen Sri Lanka’s position as a digitally enabled, sustainable, and Industry 4.0–ready investment destination.
