Dr. Bellana dismisses social media claims

Colombo, August 27 (Daily Mirror) - Colombo National Hospital (CNH) Deputy Director Dr. Rukshan Bellana today dismissed claims circulating on social media that he is the hospital’s Director General and that he was responsible for organizing the medical care of former President Ranil Wickremesinghe.

Addressing the media, Dr. Bellana said several newly emerged YouTubers had falsely claimed he was the Director General of CNH and involved in appointing a committee regarding the former President’s health.

“Former President Ranil Wickremesinghe is no longer an inmate and is free to consult any doctor of his choice—whether from CNH, abroad, or the private sector. The CNH only provided emergency treatment after his transfer from the prison hospital. I was not involved in arranging further treatment,” he said.

Dr. Bellana said that the CNH Deputy Director General is Dr. Pradeep Wijesinghe, who is also the Director of the Lady Ridgeway Hospital. “He was the one who appointed the committee on the former President’s health and signed the report submitted to court. Some YouTubers wrongly claimed I held that position and was responsible for those actions,” he clarified.

He further said that he had not made any statements to the media regarding the medical report submitted to court. However, since the report was made public, misinformation had begun circulating online.

Dr. Bellana said an official report would be released to the media regarding the former President’s health condition to prevent unrest or misinterpretation.
