Colombo, May 9 (Daily Mirror)- Claiming that the Opposition is trying to use the Kotahena girl's death for political ends, Leader of the House Bimal Ratnayake today urged the Opposition to refrain from politicising the girl's death.

Minister Ratnayake told Parliament that Minister of Women and Child Affairs Saroja Savithri Paulraj had informed a female Deputy Inspector General of Police to look into the matter soon after she came to know of the incident.

He refuted allegations that Minister Paulraj was waiting for the child's parents to make a formal complaint.

"She told me yesterday that she had informed a female DIG to look into the matter. The Minister had not waited till a complaint was made. However, there should be a formal complaint as well. The student's parents had organised a media conference and staged a protest march also. Now that they are in Colombo, they can lodge a complaint," he said.

FACT, this is not business has more than one meaning!!. we know how some of the previous Govt/s and politicians governed the country, as though they were running their own private businesses feathering their nests and building their wealth portfolios overseas in businesses, property and banks, probably banks that have the same mode of operating as some Swiss banks (with the help of stooges whose palms would have been oiled. There is NOTHING wrong in protesting in support of the student who took her own life, but to blame the govt is wrong. Official complaints should have been made by the girl's parents, school principle to the police, if the man was released they should have gone further getting legal advice. Why blame the delay in the parents coming forward to the Minister?.

...and you are just good in talking from the comfort of your own sofa. This has nothing to do with sweet words. You have yet to understand what business entails for this government. Do you lack that much of a common sense, objectivity to understand that the government can't undo in 6 months what harm the previous governments have done to the country over the past decades? You really expect them to wave a magic wand and say abracadabra and for everything to be sorted? You are obviously in denial. Its clear the opposition are starting to feel the heat and hence are accusing the government for everything they can just to show that they are incapable. Most of the people can see through this though...

She told parliament that she even asked the child's parents to meet her with a petition but they have not done it either. “Justice cannot be served through social media”, she said.

Do you think you will be wasting time with a formal complaint if it was your family in that situation? I doubt it. This is a terrible tragedy for the girl's family to endure. Send the police to their house to get a report (since the accused according to Namal is an NPP organizer,) if that's what it takes to get the ball of justice rolling. Help them out or be quiet.
