Colombo, April 18 (Daily Mirror) - People should not make the 2024 Presidential election a regime changing poll as it has to be one which elects a custodian for the nation, UNP Chairman Vajira Abeywardana said today.

"The Presidential election should be one which elects a custodian who is capable of making Sri Lanka a stable country. Incumbent President Ranil Wickremesinghe is the only leader who has such a capability. People can use the  general election to bring about a regime change. They can send all 225 MPs home including me at the general election, the MP told a briefing.

Asked whether people will accept  Wickremesinghe as a good custodian, the MP said such an eventuality will be obvious.

"Most of you don't see what is happening behind the scenes. Therefore you  have to wait and see what will happen at the Presidential election," he said.

Meanwhile, Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) Beliatta organizer Druvin Pravin Athapatthu joined the UNP today and obtained his membership from the UNP Chairman.

Impression of a Fool's paradise to leaders Friday, 19 April 2024 07:54 AM

Remember. Once upon a time, Lankans were singing the praise of Sirima and NM.Perara, in May day rallies and election campaigns, which gave a fool's paradise impression to them. When election came in 1972 they were all bundled out. Our guys are capable of taking the leaders for a ride!

Revamping Needed Thursday, 18 April 2024 10:11 PM

Just shut up and let the voters to decide. Over so many decades, this system of governance has not brought any upgrading of SL to a developed country. Only its has fattened some of the politicians monetarily. Majority of the citizens are suffering and the stress level for families with young children are bursting to the seems. A regime change is necessary or this suffering of the people will continue. Only you politicians and supporters will continue living your luxurious lifestyle if the current governance continues.

This guy is political wheeler dealer, and his wish is to continue this government as long as without facing any election,he knows well his party ,in which he is the chairman, will not win a single seat as earlier election,so he keep on pleading with public to help him to keep this government,in which he can earn using his expertise in corruption ,

What does he mean by sending home 225 MPs including him. The present president and himself was sent home. It's just a pinna chance that RW became president as a custodian of the Rajapakshas. Even now the SLPP is clinging onto RW as no one is excepting the crooks. Vajira is sure that RW will never come back by voting. He never won either. RW has sold a majority of the countries assets and will sell the rest when the election draws near.

Looks like the politicians came to begging standard, this is what the public vote power. The public has seen and experienced the worst in this country by keep electing the same lots, so nothing to fear now by regime change which is need for the country. Only criminals have to fear.

No what is needed is to completely eradicate corruption and murders for votes, current president has done nothing to change the corrupt political system, he has only helped those who committed crimes against every civilian in sri lanka, by hiding the truth, giving people with criminal backgrounds or cases pending positions of power, stifled our right to protest or express ourselves, if it keeps going we should zip our mouths, tie our hands, just let them take everything that makes us humans away from us, so they can Rob us more and more, and if we object to being robbed, baam slammed with bs laws and end up in jail or dead beaten by police

Yes; What Mr. Vajira Abeywardana says is right. Instead of changing the President, the current President Ranil Rajapaksa should be allowed to sell the remainder of Sri Lanka and completely ruin this country.
