Colombo, June 10 (Daily Mirror) - The Trade Union Alliance of Doctors for Medical and Civil Rights has called for a formal investigation into doctors at prison hospitals, if any, who have misused their privileges and have been involved in malpractices.
President of the organisation, Dr. Chamal Sanjeewa, commenting on the rising allegations of malpractices within the Department of Prisons, told the media that action should be taken against senior officials and doctors at prison hospitals who issued false medical reports to provide special facilities to prominent individuals, including politicians and senior officials in remand custody.
He noted that on several occasions, malpractices involving doctors issuing false medical reports, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic had been exposed in court.
Dr. Sanjeewa urged the government to launch a thorough investigation into these incidents as well.
