Colombo, Feb. 21 (Daily Mirror) - The Association of Divisional Secretaries and Assistant Divisional Secretaries has alleged that the private secretary to Deputy Minister Aravinda Senarath had been severely interfering with their work, particularly in the discharge of duties related to land matters.
The Association claimed that the private secretary had even exerted pressure on its members to alter decisions endorsed by the Commissioner General of Lands.
Its Secretary, R. Senthil, told our sister newspaper Lankadeepa that the Association strongly protested against such undue political interference in the functions of divisional secretaries.
Responding to the allegations, Deputy Minister Aravinda Senarath said he regretted the incident. He stated that his private secretary had acted out of a lack of understanding and assured that a proper mechanism for coordinating work would be introduced soon.
He said that some land issues remained unresolved due to alleged dereliction of duty by certain officials, and that a proper system would be put in place to address public grievances in line with the mandate given to the new government.
