Disclosing politicians linked to underworld will hinder further investigations: Nalinda

Colombo, Sept. 23 (Daily Mirror) - In the wake of public pressure to reveal names of politicians said to have been linked to underworld and the drug network, the government today said disclosing the names of politicians divulged by suspects during interrogations will be a hindrance to further investigations.

Cabinet Spokesman Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa told the weekly briefing to announce Cabinet decisions that political links with the underworld and the drug network will be revealed gradually.

“No one needs to be worried. Investigating agencies are conducting investigations properly. This is not an easy task. This network is spread in a broad area. Investigations reveal the involvement of some security forces and political mechanism in the network. Police are recovering weapons based on statements by recently arrested local politician Sampath Manamperi,” he said.

The Minister said more arrests will take place during the investigation process and stressed the need to find out the broad network through the investigations.

Meanwhile, Police Spokesman ASP F.U. Wootler said investigations are conducted ensuring that no prejudice is caused to the judicial process.

“If a name or place of a person is revealed, it may pose a hindrance to the investigations. We will be able to give positive information in the future,’ he said.

Yes, time is required to come up with fabrications to link those in mind. But the Chief PID investigator is too old now, he leaves out important loopholes mow. On the otherhand, Let us see which southern politician is fleeing the country now.

Empty vessels make the most noise. Proven once again that all those accusations are hard to prove in a court of law. People will appreciate it if you guys learn to keep your mouth shut and deliver on your election pledges rather than trying to sidestep the issue.

We are also eager to see the names of the politicians who backed the drug kingpins and other criminals. Certain politicians intentionally provided even asylum to the drug kingpins during last regimes for their narrow political gains. Under the pretext of the parliamentary privileges some politicians were engaged in numerous unlawful acts. But they were well defended by their political leadership. Therefore the political leaders who were aiding and abetting to the drug kingpins at any cost should be brought before the courts

Now that statement by Minister Nalinda is not only funny but also makes one wonder why, when this Govt. spokesman was only too happy to divulge the names of opposition MPs, former parliamentarians and any NPP rival whenever a slightest hint of corruption or wrong doing was suspected. So why this about turn? Makes one wonder....

The drug investigations are so serious and crucial more than other inquiries that's why the mechanism of that business is complex, many more unexpectable people are engaged by this such as politicians, state officers, ordinary villagers etc. As well as Lawyers, they try to escape from their charges always nearly. Further more drugs are everywhere and arrest day by day means a severe problem to the relevant officers too from the Southern Province abdolutely. Former political leaders live there and their connections may with them mean more powerful and also Police officers. There fore a reasonable period should be allowed them for this matter for fruitful results. Don't be so hurry.
