Colombo, Sep 16 (Daily Mirror) - The Ministry of Public Administration has introduced digital signatures for public officials in a move aimed at streamlining administrative processes and enhancing efficiency across government services.
Minister of Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government, Chandana Abeyratne, launched the initiative during a ceremony held to recognise digital signatures for officers in the Home Affairs Division.
The Minister emphasised that the government’s broader objective is to digitize public services and transform the public sector to meet modern expectations.
“Our goal is to build an efficient public service that the people expect. This digital signature initiative must reach even the Grama Niladhari level,” Dr. Abeyratne said.
The implementation, carried out under the Electronic Transactions Act No. 19 of 2006, began with officials from District Secretariats and Divisional Secretariats within the Home Affairs Division. Digital signatures are being issued through LankaPay, the designated authority under the Act.
Officials say this initiative will eliminate delays in document processing and enable a faster, more secure and transparent administrative workflow.
