Diesel, petrol concessions for three months from May



Colombo, April 7 (Daily Mirror) - President Anura Kumara Dissanayake announced a series of relief measures, including fuel concessions and financial support, aimed at easing the burden on the public.

The President said in Parliament that the government will provide a concession of Rs. 100 per litre for diesel and Rs. 20 per litre for petrol for a period of three months starting from May. This will not be included for Super Diesel or Super Petrol.  A total of Rs. 60 billion has been allocated for this programme.

Special concessions have also been introduced for the fisheries sector. Fishermen will receive an additional Rs. 50 per litre subsidy on fuel, while a one-time grant of Rs. 150,000 will be provided for fishing trawlers.

In addition, relief will be extended to low-income families already benefiting from the Aswesuma scheme. The President announced that payments for April will be increased, with Rs. 17,500 beneficiaries receiving Rs. 25,000, Rs. 10,000 beneficiaries increased to Rs. 15,000.
