Former Chairman of the Elections Commission Mahinda Deshapriya today confirmed that he has submitted an application to serve as a member of the Elections Commission.
Deshapriya, the current Chairman of the National Delimitation Committee on Demarcation of Wards for Local Authorities, has also submitted an application to serve on the Delimitation Commission as well.
“I have applied for both commissions,” Deshapriya said.
The Constitutional Council has called for applications from “persons of eminence and integrity who have distinguished themselves in public or professional life and who are not members of any political party, to be considered for the appointment as Members of the Constitutional Council.
Accordingly, about 8000 persons have applied. (SJ)

Is there any Sri Lankan foreigner who is planning to contest for the next presidential election?

Another disaster in the making. He is the man who allowed Gota to contest the Presidential election despite the fact that he was still a US citizen.

You can't you betrayed the nation by not having LG during Yahapalanaya and its still not held
He failed to half LG member numbers Thursday, 02 March 2023 04:09 PM
He is talking too much about elections recently. He has failed to reduce the LG numbers by half, let alone by 5000. We need persons who want to cut back on costs for elections, not those who want to encourage too much, or too lax to cut back.

OK. That means the Rajapakses will win the election again. This is the bugger who let Gota contest while being a dual citizen. Then he manipulated the general election to allow pohottuwa rogues to win. He has still not answered the question - "Why did you postpone the counting to the day after the election was held?" What happened to the ballot boxes that night?

BEST NEVER to let this individual anywhere near the Elections Commission ever again! He made an utter mess of it in an extremely partisan manner when he was in charge before, by allowing Gota to contest for Presidential elections while he was yet a foreign citizen . So best bar him from ever holding Elections Commissioner position. MM
