Colombo, April 10 (Daily Mirror) - The Matara Magistrate’s Court today granted bail to suspended Inspector General of Police (IGP) Deshabandu Tennakoon.

Bail was granted with two sureties of Rs. 1 million each.

Tennakoon had been remanded in connection with a shooting incident that occurred on December 31, 2023, in front of the W15 Hotel in the Pelena area of Weligama, Matara.

I am not a lawyer but I feel that he should have been remanded for a longer period for hiding ,with out giving any consideration to the court ruling.

Is that so simple ? A person who is charged with so many aligations along with hiding for day without appearing in courts is given bail. Is this the law that will apply to the normal citizens ? Now he will be free for a long time. Cannot beleave this.

Oh well, he can enjoy his 1000 bottles of liquour now for Avurudu and laugh at the NPP. I have seen comments saying this is how the law works and to be patient..but they the NPP talked before the elections they gave the impression they were going to catch crooks and bring stolen money. Our people fell for it again..what wasn't said was that crooks (unless they are incredibly stupid) don't do things in a manner that they get caught. They generally know the law, and get others to do their dirty work..oh well Sri Lankan citizens can now tick off the lesson that catching crooks and getting stolen money is not as easy as election promises. We live and learn and continue to be taken for rides by politicians

Just can't understand the law of this country. This swine is involved in many crimes and robberies and now granted bail. He should have been put to death for what he has done. It seems our law is even more corrupted.
