Colombo, May 08 (Daily Mirror) - Suspended Inspector General of Police Deshabandhu Tennakoon has been summoned to appear before the Parliamentary Committee of Inquiry investigating his conduct, on May 19.

The committee, which has convened several times at the Parliament premises, has officially notified Tennakoon for the first time to appear in person as part of its ongoing investigation.

Npp with two third majority has failed to even remove the IGP and appoint someone without an acting person. Lol Personally I think the president of a country should have the authority to appoint the IGP as president is responsible for national security.

Council should be abolished. President is elected by the people and he has the right to appoint the IGP not by a council as he is responsible for national security. If something goes wrong it is the president who will get the blame not the council.

Any attempt to undermine the Constitutional Council (CC) is a MISTAKE. Why are Sri Lankans FORGETTING History, SO FAST – SL TRAIT!!?? Cannot remember what happened to appointments before the CC, was in place!!?? The President should only appoint those officials APPROVED by the CC!! Not any other, which leads to Politicisation, Corruption and Nepotism, with LACK of TRANSPARENCY and lead us back to dark days of 2005 to 2015!!??

There are procedures to remove certain officials. CJ, Attorney General, Auditor General, IGP, Commanders of the forces are Constitutional appointments and there is a procedure to follow to remove them. So AKD is moving in the right direction. At this time when there are cases pending in Court to question Deshabandu is not acceptable to me.

What stupid comments demonstrating ignorance at the highest level, There is a manner and procedure to be followed when removing an IGP specially in the face of on going court cases. If any wrong procedure is adopted the slack will have to be borne by the government with serious consequences. The IGP cannot be removed as if removing a shoe lace and there are no fast track quick fixes.
