Colombo, Sept. 25 (Daily Mirror) - SLPP MP Namal Rajapaksa today highlighted the Daily Mirror's report on the Sri Lanka Navy's struggles to meet modern maritime standards.
MP Rajapaksa told Parliament that the government must reveal what action has been taken to upgrade the Navy in combating drug smuggling on the seas.
He said the Daily Mirror highlited that the Sri Lanka Navy's technology is outdated and that the technology should be upgraded.
The MP said the government has proposed to reduce the Navy's manpower to 40,000 by 2030 and pointed out that it is not practical if the technology is not upgraded in line with the reduction in manpower.
He said there is a question about protecting the maritime boundary if the Navy's technology is not upgraded and the reqiured manpower is not provided.
