DMT to launch mobile services to assist owners of flood-submerged vehicles

Colombo, Dec. 6 (Daily Mirror) - The Department of Motor Traffic (DMT) announced that it will introduce district-wise mobile services to assist vehicle owners whose documents were lost or damaged after their vehicles were submerged in the recent floods.

DMT Commissioner General Kamal Amarasinghe told the Daily Mirror that the programme is expected to begin by mid-December, once conditions have stabilised in the affected areas.

“People are still in a critical situation. Their houses and vehicles went under water and many may or may not recover the documents related to their vehicles. Therefore, we will launch mobile services to collect the necessary information and issue replacement documents,” he said.

He added that some vehicle owners have been unable even to locate their vehicles, ans such instances have highlighted the need for swift support.

“We will commence the programme as soon as the situation becomes stable,” Amarasinghe said.
