Crimes like Thajudeen’s murder not committed by ’Siripala’ or ’Gnanaratnam’ in the village: Bimal

Colombo, October 2 (Daily Mirror) - Crimes like the murder of Wasim Thajudeen were not committed by Siripala or Gnanaratnam in the village, but by rulers who governed the country, Minister Bimal Ratnayake said yesterday.

He told reporters in Anuradhapura that the law will be implemented against those involved in the crimes based on the results of investigations, irrespective of them being political activists or not.

Responding to a question, he said action will be taken against the perpetrators irrespective of them being political activists or not.

"These crimes were not committed by Siripala or Gnanaratnam in the village. These crimes were committed by the rulers who governed the country. They covered up the crimes and swept them under the carpet. Wasim Thajudeen was murdered in 2012, the bond scam was committed in 2015 and the Easter Sunday bomb attacks in 2019. The law will be implemented according to investigations irrespective of those involved being political activists or not," he said.

The Minister said the government will not intervene in the investigations regarding these crimes.
