Colombo, July 17 (Daily Mirror) - The Court of Appeal today reserved its order until September 1 on a writ petition seeking the removal of Police Special Task Force (STF) personnel from Boossa Prison.
The petition was filed by J.A. Ruwan Kumara, alias Midigama Ruwan, an alleged underworld figure. The case was heard before a two-judge bench comprising Court of Appeal President Justice Rohantha Abeysuriya and Justice Priyantha Fernando.
Counsel for the petitioner argued that Boossa Prison is a designated high-security facility and questioned the continued deployment of STF personnel tasked with both internal and external security.
Additional Solicitor General Shanil Kularatne, appearing for the Attorney General, objected to the petition’s maintainability. He contended that the petitioner had not approached the court with clean hands and that there was no legal basis for judicial intervention.
