Court rejects Rajitha’s anticipatory bail application

Colombo, July 18 (Daily Mirror) - Colombo Chief Magistrate Thanuja Lakmali Jayatunga rejected the anticipatory bail application filed by former Minister Rajitha Senaratne.

Senaratne had filed the application on July 14 before the Colombo Magistrate’s Court, seeking release in anticipation of a possible arrest by the Bribery Commission.

The Bribery Commission informed the court that it expects to arrest the suspect in connection with the alleged financial loss of Rs. 26.2 million to the government, said to have resulted from awarding a sand excavation project at the Kirinda Fisheries Harbour to a Korean company.

Court's rejection is very good decision. Otherwise, all culprits will hide themselves, seek anticipatory bail and escape from rule of law. Anyone who robbed or abused power and caused loss to the tax payers must be punished and their's and their families assets must be confiscated.

If Rajitha has abused the power beyond his ministerial limits it should be considered as a serious offence. Besides that if he has violated the tender procedure it will also be an offence. Thus the court has already rejected his anticipatory bail application of RajithaTherefore before he is arrested by the police he himself should surrender to the court otherwise he will face certain consequences
