Court orders probe on false 119 tip-off against female library officer

Colombo, June 9 (Daily Mirror) - Colombo Additional Magistrate Manjula Rathnayake ordered the Cinnamon Gardens Police to conduct an investigation and report to the court regarding a false tip-off made to the 119 Police Emergency Response Unit, alleging that a female officer of the Colombo Public Library was carrying illegal drugs in her handbag.

Police informed court that an unidentified individual had provided false information to the 119 emergency hotline, claiming that narcotics were concealed in the handbag of a female assistant officer employed at the Colombo Public Library.

Following the complaint, investigating officers visited the library and inspected the handbag of the said officer. They informed court that no suspicious items or narcotics were found in her possession.

The complainant stated that the incident had caused her significant embarrassment and distress. She therefore requested an immediate investigation and appropriate action to ensure justice.
