Court orders probe involving Minister Wasantha Samarasinghe

Colombo, July 25 (Daily Mirror) - The Colombo Fraud Investigation Bureau today submitted a detailed report to the Mount Lavinia Magistrate’s Court regarding an alleged fraud involving the lease of a two-storey building and land belonging to the National Workers’ Institute, based on a forged deed, for a sum of Rs. 3 million.

Mount Lavinia Magistrate A.D. Chathurika de Silva directed the Fraud Investigation Bureau to obtain statements from Minister of Trade, Commerce, Food Security and Cooperative Development Wasantha Samarasinghe, Deputy Minister of Labour Mahinda Jayasinghe, and Kaduwela Mayor Ranjan Jayalal, and to include them in the investigation file.

The report submitted to court includes several documents uncovered during the investigation, including a certified copy of the forged deed related to the building, meeting minutes dated 3rd September 2017 appointing Wasantha Samarasinghe as President of the National Workers’ Congress trade union, certified copies of lease agreements numbered 166, 206 and 207, as well as case records related to the disputed property from the Kaduwela District Court, Mount Lavinia District Court and the Civil Appellate High Court.

These documents were formally presented to court today by officers of the Fraud Investigation Bureau for further judicial consideration.
