Colombo, May 14 (Daily Mirror) - Colombo High Court Judge Sujeewa Nissanka today ordered that an official report on the health condition of notorious criminal gang leader and alleged drug trafficker Nandun Chinthaka Wickramaratne, also known as "Harak Kata," be submitted to the court following a medical examination conducted by the regional Judicial Medical Officer (JMO).
During court proceedings, the accused claimed that he had been suffering from hemorrhoids and other medical conditions for an extended period and was not receiving appropriate treatment. Although a doctor had examined him, the accused alleged that the Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of the Tangalle branch of the Terrorist Investigation Division (TID), under whose custody he is currently held, was not providing treatment in accordance with medical advice.
The court ordered that he be provided with proper medical treatment as recommended by the JMO.
The case was taken up today in connection with an incident that occurred on September 10, 2023, during which the suspects allegedly assaulted a police officer and attempted to escape custody while under the supervision of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). The Attorney General has filed indictments under 22 separate charges against Harak Kata, his driver Dinesh Tharanga, and CID constable Ravindu Sandeep.
The court also ordered that Dinesh Tharanga, the third accused, be remanded until May 28.
