Court orders disputed JVP–FLSP office to be placed under police custody

Colombo, Sept. 9 (Daily Mirror) - The Gampaha Magistrate’s Court (Court No. 02) today ordered that the political office currently occupied by the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) and claimed by the Frontline Socialist Party (FLSP) be vacated and handed over to the police until the dispute is settled.

Magistrate Dhammika Uduwevidana issued the order this afternoon, directing that the building remain under police custody pending further legal proceedings.

A heated dispute erupted on September 3 between the JVP and the FLSP over the alleged takeover of a party office in Yakkala, with both parties offering conflicting claims regarding ownership and political intent.

Police protection for private property should come with a fee. That shoukd cover salaries and overhead costs of police officers providing the security.

This clearly reveals that the JVP could not show a court verdict stating that the particular party office had been handed over to JVP. So, the JVP misused Police powers and thuggery to evict FLSP out of that office by force. This is a classic example of how this government is misusing power by appointing a party man Ravi Senewiratne as secretary of the Police ministry.
