Colombo, Apri. 22 (Daily Mirror) - Colombo Fort Magistrate Isuru Neththikumara today ordered that the detention order issued against former State Intelligence Service (SIS) Director, Major General (Rtd.) Suresh Sallay, will remain in effect.

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) produced Suresh Sallay before the Fort Magistrate’s Court today in connection with ongoing investigations into the Easter Sunday bomb attacks.

Counsel Asith Siriwardena, appearing for the suspect, informed the court that the third suspect, Suresh Sallay, wished to make a statement before the Magistrate in connection with the incident.

In response, the Magistrate stated that, in line with court procedure, a reasonable period is granted to a suspect who seeks permission to make a statement in order to consider the matter.

Accordingly, the Magistrate granted the third suspect one month to decide whether he intends to make such a statement.

The Magistrate further ordered that court be informed on May 20 regarding the suspect’s decision and that he be produced in open court.

Suresh Sallay was arrested and is being investigated over allegations linked to the 2019 Easter Sunday terror attacks.
