The country is now in a situation where it needs to open inter treatment centres with 1,000 beds every six hours in a day, the Government Medical Officers' Association (GMOA) Secretary Dr Shenal Fernando said today.
He told the media that a higher number of COVID positive cases started to emerge in a single day.
By next week the country will face a situation of opening new Inter-treatment centres with 1,000 beds within every four hours.
Accordingly, it is clear that how the curative sectors have collapsed with the emerging of a higher number of COVID positive cases in European countries and even in the USA.
"By increasing the number of hospital beds would not be a solution to control the daily escalation of COVID cases. The increasing number of beds means the health sector is expanding its capacity. We cannot increase the number of trained health service officials parallel to the number of beds," he said.
The current decisions taken by us now will depend on the increase in the number of COVID positive cases in the next few weeks. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
