Copy of Yugadanavi agreement to be tabled in Parliament next week: Minister
A copy of the agreement which the government has signed with New Fortress Energy and other documents pertaining to tenders will be tabled in Parliament next week, the House was informed today.
Minister of Power and Renewable Energy Gamini Lokuge who was responding to a question raised by SJB MP S. M. Marikkar on behalf of Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa assured that all documents pertaining to the Yugadanavi power plant and supply of LNG will be tabled in Parliament next week.
The Minister said Fortress Energy will be contracted to supply LNG only for a period of five year. “However I want to make it clear that Fortress Energy will not enjoy a monopoly in supplying LNG,” the Minister said.
“Allowing private sector participation in the power supply is nothing new as the private sector has been involved in the said sector since the 1990s,” he added.(Yohan Perera and Ajith Siriwardana)
