Cops arrested for demanding bribe from tourist

Colombo, March 07 (Daily Mirror)- A sergeant and two constables were arrested for allegedly soliciting a bribe from an Austrian tourist.

Police said the officers, attached to the Kollupitiya Police, demanded Rs. 50,000 from the tourist in exchange for not taking legal action over the foreign cigarettes she was carrying.

The suspects are to be produced before court today.

Damn good for the Bribe taking Cops. It must be highlighted in Austria via SL Consulate office so that people there will know that Government means business to protect the tourists

EVERYONE WHO SMOKES USUALLY WILL PURCHASE CIGS FROM ANY DUTY FREE SHOP IN AIRPORTS OR WHEREVER AND BRING IT ALONG WITH THEM, CATCHING THIS TGOURIST WITH FOREIGN CIGS IN COLPETTY SEEMS TO BE A JOKE!!. DAMN GOOD, THE COPS THOUGHT THIS TOURIST COULD BE FOOLED!!. PUT THE TWO BEHIND BARS FOR A PERIOD OF TIME. CAN THEY BE STOOD DOWN FOR THIS??. WE DO NOT WANT BRIBE TAKING MEN OR WOMEN IN ANY FORCE.

Please put some undercover bribery officers at the Bandaranaike International Airport where immigration officers were seen demanding foreign currency note/s from tourists. This should be stopped so the country benefits.
