Colombo, Feb 26 (Daily Mirror) - Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa said the Constitutional Council (CC) has not approved the appointment of Deshabandu Tennakoon as the new IGP.
"There were four votes in favour, 2 against while two members of the CC abstained. At least five votes are required for a decision. The Speaker has a casting vote only in case of a tie. There was no tie. The Constitution has been blatantly violated for the second time," he said.

Sajith go home you are a headless chicken and a rogue who destroyed sri lanka during Yahapalanaya robbing your ministry and remember how you were disrespectful for an democratically elected president to send home climbing the barricades nor respecting the law enforcement officers and then got a severe beating at galle face to run for life trying to take political upper hand go home

All independent commisions and councils must be dissolved just wasting public funds and burdening the public more and more. These corrupt practices will prevail because our constitution has become the clay in the hands of politicians and this will prevail until a new govt.is formed.

Invalid appointment.

Fundamental right case must be filled against the Speaker who violated the SL constitution, to prove the appointment null and void.

Wonder whether it a part of a long term strategy for elections.

It's not the votes that matter as seen at the voting. 4 for 2 againt 2 abstained. Could there be a hidden vote to meet the required 5. Guys this is sri lanka. A land like no other......

The main issue is, why the CC members cannot vote in an important issue like this. They don't deserve to be members in the CC.

Sajith must understand that if the President cannot flout the Constitution who else can. That is the basic foundation

Those in favour were 4, those opposed were 2. So it seems a done deal. (Abstinence does not count). The tie applies to votes cast. So of the six who chose to vote, if it was a 3 in favour and :3 opposed, then the speakers casting vote would have come into play. So SP does not seem to make sense.

SP has become indoctrinated by GLP doctrine!?? HRC vote heyday of MaRa Government was never lost at Geneva!!?? All abstentions was considered as Voting NO to HRC resolution against SL!!?? GLP has decamped SLPP and joined Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB)

a clowning, Beaning president, making an arrogant decision to appoint a person who has been found guilty of various misdemeanours by courts of law. BASL must take immediate action.
Anjsri12 Tuesday, 27 February 2024 10:04 AM
Please indicate the relevant court cases / reference that found guilty? What's the heck BASL has to do any action and are they governing Law in Sri Lanka. Why on what grounds ,you include President in this matter. Are you a grudger Mr Sam Silva?
