Complaint lodged against Lal Kantha’s statement targeting Mihintale chief incumbent

Colombo, Jan. 13 (Daily Mirror) - A complaint has been lodged against Agriculture, Livestock, Lands and Irrigation Minister K. D. Lal Kantha over statements allegedly targeting the chief incumbent of Mihintale Rajamaha Viharaya, Walawahangunawewe Dhammarathana Thera.

The thero appeared before the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) today to formally register the complaint. Speaking to the media outside the CID, his lawyer said Lal Kantha had carried out a “strategic and well-planned attack” against the monk through several online and social media platforms. The lawyer described the statements as unethical and highlighted that Dhammarathana Thera is a widely respected public figure.

Authorities were provided with the names of those responsible and relevant social media links, the lawyer said, adding that the police have the power to take immediate steps to halt the circulation of such statements. He emphasized that the complaint was not personal but aimed at protecting the Buddha Sasana, and that this marked only the beginning of legal action.

Addressing reporters, Dhammarathana Thera said he remained undeterred by the videos and statements made against him.
