Committee submits report on passport issue

Colombo, Jan 29 (Daily Mirror) - The committee appointed to study the passport issue and work out recommendations to resolve it has handed over its report to the Minister of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs, Ananda Wijepala.

The report will be presented to the Cabinet next week.

According to the recommendations, a decision will be made on whether or not to change the current procedure for issuing passports, a Ministry spokesman said.

There are many asylum seekers who were mostly from the North who used deceit and tricks to get their Western citizenship. Regardless of their skills or money, they have defamed by saying Sri Lanka so wicked to them they had to flee. Country fought civil war when they funded the LTTE. They now live in Australia, USA, Canada and Europe still making lies. We do not need terrorist associated or otherwise evil people back here again in their current lifetimes.

The private enterprises involved are obviously making grand fortunes. Earlier corrupt officials changed procedure, but then even with court order it was apparently too late. What lies. Then these new fangled passports that cost more and delay things. Previous government officials and Minister needs court cases against them for the situation.

Why do we need committee and reports. Problem is very obvious, we don't have enough passport books and don't have enough resources (men, office space, office open time, printers etc). Import 1 million passport books and issue 10,000 passports everyday including holidays and weekends until the demand/ supply situation becomes normal. Decentralize immigration office and start at least 5 regional offices. Why can't the govt to do these things within next one month?
