Colombo, Tuesday 24 (Daily Mirror) - The Ministry of Energy has appointed a seven-member committee to evaluate the current coal supply mechanism to the Norochcholai Lakvijaya Power Plant, the Ministry said in a statement.

Prof. W.D.A.S. Rodrigo, Head of the Department of Electrical Engineering at the University of Moratuwa, will chair the committee. Other members include experts from the University of Moratuwa and the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, with K.L.R.C. Wijayasinghe, Additional Secretary (Power and Power Reform), serving as convener.

The committee’s mandate is to review and assess the existing procedures for coal procurement and supply to the power plant, aiming to ensure efficiency and reliability in operations.

For everyting just appoint a expert commitee and get a report. is this the way a government has ro run a country. one commitee for 323 containers, for fishing nets one commitee. and more to come. so we can run the country by commitees rather than a government.

There needs to be a procurement expert in this committee, who is experienced with international tenders. This government thinks only University dons know everything. Things in SL will be much better if the right persons with the right expertise are appointed. NPP must know by now that much more could have been achieved, if some of their naive and stubborn thinking is changed. With high revenues, get people from overseas, where there are skills gaps in SL.
