Commissioner General of Motor Traffic arrested over alleged fraud

Colombo, March 28 (Daily Mirror) - The Commissioner General of Motor Traffic, Kamal Amarasinghe has been arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department.

According to police, he was taken into custody on allegations of aiding and abetting the fraudulent registration of a cab by illegally altering its chassis number.

Police said that the arrest was carried out by the Financial Investigation Division of the CID.

Amarasinghe is expected to be produced before court today (28).

Something like this was impossible or unthinkable during the previous anti-people regimes as it would have taken just one phone call to a big shot to sort things out in the corrupt guy's favour.
