Food in Sri Lanka is so expensive. I don't know why. Compared to income earned by average Sri Lankans, SL is a very expensive country.

This was a flop actually. The kimbulagala jogging park have more stalls than this. This had only a handful of stalls and few of them were clothes and jewellery accessories stalls not even food. Stalls which were there were poor quality, no regular brand names involved just another ABC XYZ food companies from a junction tea shop. They have put wires everywhere on the floor walking area. Poor management poor quality this could've been done way better. One bank (main sponsor) had tried the best for their promotion but only three stalls had adhered to their QR program others only took cash for tax evasion. Crowd was a handful on a Saturday night. Parking was 100 per hour on top of it luckily we came back in 15 minutes and got that part free.

Because of taxes. All taxes govt put on vendor and suppliers etc goes directly to customer. Each vendor who makes 1 lakh turnover per day should pay govt 18,000 per day tax. So he has to increase everything beyond 18,000 to make a living. This 18,000 is from each supplier, manufacturer, vendor, each. People say VAT is deductible but no one issues VAT bills and the paperwork is too much so everyone just pays the 18%. That's per day and on top of it the corporate taxes and personal income taxes come too. Everything is taken from the consumer ultimately because no one would do business for charity.
