Civil Aviation Authority refutes social media posts on charter flight to Rome

Colombo, March 9 (Daily Mirror) - Refuting social media reports that SriLankan Airlines flight UL 1213 departed to bring a Government Minister back to the country, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) said today the Minister mentioned in these reports had already returned to Sri Lanka several days ago.

The CAA said in a statement that SriLankan Airlines flight UL 1213 departed for Rome today to facilitate passengers who had booked tickets to travel to Europe and beyond via the Middle East, and to bring back tourists and Sri Lankans currently in Europe.

The statement said this flight was organised with the full intervention of the government, understanding the difficulties faced by passengers due to the current situation in the Middle East.

"We confirm that this flight was not a plan to bring a Government Minister back to the country, as claimed by various social media posts. The Minister mentioned in these reports had already returned to Sri Lanka several days ago," the statement added.

It said such statements, made maliciously through social media and based on false information, insult the Sri Lankan State and directly tarnish the reputation of the Civil Aviation Authority.

"We strongly condemn these actions, which aim to create a wrong public perception of the Civil Aviation Authority by spreading falsehoods," it added.

The CAA said that necessary steps are being taken to initiate legal action against social media activists who operate based on such false information.

While in there, teach them the meaning of honesty, integrity, values and a lecture on how politicians will get the attention of the voters (most importantly voters take not of what politicians do for those who voted them in and the country as a whole. as trying to discredit the President, his ministers and or members of parliament will only move voters away from the party/party's.
