Cigarette haul: Two arrested in Colombo

Colombo, January 9 (Daily Mirror) - Two suspects were arrested in Colombo’s Aluthkade area during a joint operation conducted by the Sri Lanka Navy and the Police on January 8, after around 1,560 foreign-manufactured cigarettes were found in their possession.

The suspects, aged 34 and 48, are residents of Colombo 12.

The raid was carried out by naval personnel attached to SLNS Rangalla under the Western Naval Command, in collaboration with the Walana Central Anti-Corruption Unit of the Police.

Following questioning, the cigarettes allegedly intended for illegal sale, were seized.

The suspects along with the confiscated cigarettes were handed over to the Keselwatta Police Station for further legal action.
