The body of a five-and-a-half-year-old child was found with injuries suspected to have been caused by broken glass bottles, was found in front of a construction site Halbarawa in Mulleriyawa, police said.

They said the body was found yesterday afternoon (08) during an investigation conducted by the Mulleriyawa Police based on information received through the 119 emergency number.

The child is from the Halbarawa area of Malabe. Police investigations have revealed that the child was under the care of the grandmother and grandfather, as her father lives separately and the mother leaves for work during the day.

Police said the magisterial inquiry and the forensic officer's on-site investigations have been completed.

The body has been sent to the National Institute of Infectious Diseases for a post-mortem examination, police said.

The the repression of freedoms, whether it be jokes, debate or religion or sermons by Christians, they are all crushed. Military is using up most of the public funds collected. With the autocratic rule, abuses to vulnerable will only increase. Maybe media will follow up, but probably the criminals who did it will never be found. The child was abused by many cuts to death. So cruel, but now only expecting worse against other innocents here as long as Parliament and President control the lands.

There was a time we used to sacrifice a person at a construction site. Most recently as a result of colonial rule we broke an egg at the ground breaking ritual. Have we now reverted to a human sacrifice
