Chief Prelates warn President over LGBTQ tourism plans

Colombo, Sept. 30 (Daily Mirror) - The Chief Prelates of all three Buddhist Chapters have written to President Anura Kumara Dissanayake expressing concern over certain government initiatives including LGBTQ tourism promotion, warning that they could harm cultural values and lead to serious social consequences.

In their letter, the Mahanayakes pointed out that efforts aimed at promoting tourism through LGBTQ-related activities, could give rise to what they described as “serious social catastrophes.”

Mahanayakes also raised objections to proposed amendments to the Penal Code, which seek to introduce an offence of corporal punishment, may have negative implications.

The Prelates urged the President to reconsider these measures in order to safeguard the country’s cultural and religious traditions.

Right or wrong I want government to be very strong on this. Parliament and the president are the ones people have selected. They must be strong on their policies. Cannot waiver based on external factors.

We will be able to earn a lot of money from Tourism with this promotion. The boys and girls nowadays are already enjoying the life so let them enjoy and earn some money too. In Thailand they earn a minimum of USD 500 a day. Is it better than bring in debt.

We shouldn't target people who are different with hatred or special treatment, shouldn't have tourism focusing on lgbtq etc, but also shouldn't make being gay illegal, the people making these decisions are dinosaurs or have village mentality, back in the day gays we're too afraid to come out coz people would kill them or cast them out, doesn't mean they aren't human and shouldn't have same rights as anyone else just coz they prefer different things, sri Lankans problem is backward thinkers who hold sri lanka back, should be an age limit for politicians and decision makers

The simple question I would like to pose for those who support LGBTQ and HAVE CHILDREN is would you allow your children to engage in homosexual relationships and marry their so called "partner"? In other words, would you like to see your daughter marrying another woman or son marrying another man? Thank you.

Govt should send a strong message that we are a country that respects all people regardless of sexual orientation, and that they are free to visit and enjoy our country. It is not that we are promoting sex parties for goodness sake!!! As for corporal punishment, while the Bill may need some fine tuning, of course it should be criminalised! How many children have been severely injured due to such "assaults" by teachers! Why would anyone object to banning this barbaric practice!

People in Sri Lanka who support LGBT should be imprisoned. The LGBT community targets youngsters and is a harmful organisation. A lot of white gay man travel to Sri Lanka to assault children. Where is the government to protect kids from LGBT perverts that travel to Sri Lanka to engage in repulsive behaviour and help spread HIV throughout our community?
