It’s very good news. This airport should expand so that further long haul flights can take place. The southerners may not like it. That is due to inborn jealousy against the Tamil speaking people. They should know it will economically improve Sri Lanka.

Had the previous government realised that this country’s only linguistic link to massive Indian market is VIA Palaly, Mattala wouldn’t have been built.

This only going to reduce the revenue for BIA. They will lose higher landing and overflight fees. Even a rich country like Qatar has only 1 international airport. No point of keeping open an international airport with customs and immigration agents just to serve 1 small flight per day.

How is one flight a day going to pay for the salaries of airport staff and maintenance? Only flights from Tamil Nadu will land here. No other international flight will come here. More losses for the government or they are doing this for politics.
