The decision taken to change the weekly top-up day for the National Fuel Pass QR Quota to Tuesday midnight would save at least Rs.30 million monthly.

Addressing an event at the Ministry, minister Kanchana Wijesekera said the monthly direct cost of Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) and Ceylon Petroleum Storage Terminals Limited (CPSTL), Muthurajawela and eleven regional depots every Sunday would be Rs.19.5 million.

The indirect cost Approx Rs.10 million, he said.

On last Monday, the weekly top-up day for the National Fuel Pass QR Quota was shifted to Tuesdays instead of Sundays.

The decision was taken to reduce the cost of distribution by operating CPC and CPSTL on weekends. (Chaturanga Pradeep Samarawickrama)

Good initiative. Now that the immediate crisis has been brought under control, focussing of improving efficiency and effectiveness is needed. It will take some time but it seems at least a start is being made.

The real fact is, demand for fuel has dropped by nearly half. Fuel shed operators are willing to fill the tank with or without QR code. They have to sell the fuel anyway to earn their profit. This guy wants us to believe that he has solved the fuel problem.
