Batsmen Dinesh Chandimal and Avishka Fernando have been axed from the Sri Lanka T20 squad ahead of the three-match series against Zimbabwe which starts in Harare on September 3. Both Chandimal and Fernando were members of the Sri Lanka team that last played in a T20 home series that was against Bangladesh last month.
Sri Lanka will feature in three T20 Internationals against Zimbabwe which is the last opposition the team will face before heading to the Asia Cup in the United Arab Emirates that starts on September 9.
Sri Lanka opens its tour of Zimbabwe today with the first ODI followed by the second and final game on Sunday with both matches starting at 12.30 pm Sri Lanka time.
Sri Lanka named a 17-member squad for the T20 series and in it are Nuwanidu Fernando, Kamil Mishara, Vishen Helambage and Dushan Hemantha while the rest are regular players with the team.
Nuwanidu Fernando is already a member of the Sri Lanka ODI squad in Zimbabwe while Helambage, a 20-year old batsman from St. Peter’s College, is the newest face among the Sri Lanka players.
