Colombo, Sept. 12 (Daily Mirror) - A programme to recognize district-level outstanding achievers of the 2023/2024 GCE Advanced Level Examination in the Central Province will be held on Sunday (14) in Kandy under the patronage of Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya.
Organized under the President’s Fund, the ceremony will award 360 students from the Kandy, Matale and Nuwara Eliya districts, who secured positions 1 to 10 across all six subject streams, with certificates and an incentive payment of Rs. 100,000 each. The total expenditure for the initiative is Rs. 36 million.
Meanwhile, a scholarship programme for schoolgirls from economically disadvantaged families in the Kandy Mahiyawa area will also take place on September 14 at 1:30 p.m. at the Kandy District Secretariat.
In addition, a one-day training workshop for subject officers from all Divisional Secretariat offices in the Central Province will be held tomorrow (13) at the Kandy District Secretariat. The workshop, aimed at strengthening regional-level activities of the President’s Fund, will provide training to officers from Kandy, Matale and Nuwara Eliya on expanding beneficiary coverage, improving service quality, adopting newly upgraded online systems, and ensuring faster service delivery.
