Colombo, January 15 (Daily Mirror)- A bag of cement will be reduced by Rs. 100 due to the reduction of the prevailing CESS tax on cement, the Ministry of Finance said.

The order presented by officials of the Ministry of Finance to reduce the prevailing CESS tax on cement received approval from the Committee on Public Finance and accordingly,a bag of cement will decrease by approximately Rs. 100.

The Communications Department of Parliament said matters related to the reduction of CESS tax were discussed when the Committee on Public Finance, chaired by MP Harsha de Silva met in Parliament recently.

Sri Lanka can import cement from middle eastern countries where the retail price is only Rd.1326 equivalent to 17 Riyals 1 bag. The construction sector in SL is suffering due to so many taxes in construction materials. The new govt.must look into this and reduce the price or import

New government cannot just reduce price, simply because they said so on stage! Neither can they import much since they shouted so much against imports! And yes , they need to continue with taxes , even though they shouted about reducing it in one week after coming into power with 2/3! And NO! Nothing will be brought back from Uganda . So just shush, and continue with your life! At least next time use your brains when voting ! You haven’t for more than 5 years!

The problem is , the voters vote to take revenge and with anger. Never think about the consequences even with a tiny brains they have. However the devoted voters do not have any issues with the current government and still they will be very supportive to the new government.
