Sri Lanka’s 68th Independence Day celebrations were concluded a short while ago with the singing of the Tamil translation of the National Anthem.

Czechoslovakia used two National Anthems in two different languages. Afterwards The country divided into Czech and Slovakia (two countries) on the intervention of UNO. Pl be careful this may be the first step. Hope higher authorities will keep an eye on what is happening. At last do not say I did not Know that..

Excellent move. I am sure Sri Lankans using tamil as their first language sang the national anthem with sense for the first time. One should feel without just reciting,

If we can end this ethnic misunderstandings, as Sri Lankans its not a serious issue to sing national anthem in any language.

Ram Thursday, 04 February 2016 12:52 PM
This is stupid, shame on you Government. The point is Anthem is a symbol, no one should be bothered about the language its being sung. If Sinhala is a problem then lets all sing in Tamil, but its really stupid for the gov to sing it in two languages. This Govt. will make sure there is ethnic problem again soon. Yahapalana Govt. has no sense at all. Please lets sing in English and other languages as well, otherwise those people will get hurt.

A one of the positive steps towards reconciliation. Tamils must feel now, that they, slowly but definitely will have equal rights in this beautiful country in time to come under this Yahapalanaya Government.

Is this the way to reconciliation or down to earth political posturing?Reality is that singing of national anthem in Tamil language should have been postponed by one year with a guarantee from Prime Minister Wickramasinghe of Constitutional amendment by 04 February 2017.For all those who applaud, blame yourself each time government acts in contravention of the Constitution, in the future.

national anthem in one language in state events should be enough whilst at regional events maybe official translations can be allowed. later on if there is a Muslim uprising we will have this issue again with call for more languages. via DM iOS App
