Can’t allow Executive to interfere with judicial independence: Saliya Peiris

There have been attempts by the Executive to interfere with the independence of the judiciary, Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) President Saliya Peiris said.

“We can’t expect the public to heed to the law, if the Executive does not. This is a very bad example set by the Executive and as professionals we must stand against this,” he said.

Always judiciary must be independent, there is no second question about it, it must be independent even to point out the Executive's wrong thinking and acting. What is happening now is our government is taking the path of dictatorship. This is the last resort where we can get true justice.
