Canadian woman arrested at BIA with Rs. 360 Mn ’hashish’

A foreign woman was arrested at Katunayake Airport with a consignment of "hashish" worth approximately Rs. 360 million.

The 36-year-old Canadian woman was arrested by officers from the Customs Narcotics Control Division upon her arrival from Toronto, Canada, last night.

Her arrest followed an international intelligence tip-off received by Sri Lanka Customs. The suspect is reportedly a drug addict.

Customs officers discovered 36.5 kilograms of "hashish" concealed in several bed sheets inside two suitcases she brought with her.

Authorities suspect the drugs were intended for re-export to another country.

The Canadian woman and the drugs will be handed over to the Police Narcotics Bureau for further investigation.

PERSONAL USE!! NO WAY, IT IS IN MY OPINION TO BE HANDED OVER TO A CONTACT HERE. IFSHE WAS TO TAKE IT OUT TO ANOTHER COUNTRY, SHE WOULD HAVE TAKEN A DIRECT FLIGHT INSTEAD OF RISKING TWO CUSTOMS CHECKS. SHE IS VIRTUALLY A CARRIER FOR A FEE AND AN AMOUNT OF DRUGS FOR HER USE.
