Canadian goes missing at Hikkaduwa beach

Hikkaduwa, Jan 17 (Daily Mirror) - A 19-year-old Canadian national went missing while bathing off Hikkaduwa beach last evening.

According to the police, the Canadian was bathing in the sea despite warning signs of dangerous currents and was swept away.

Both the police and the Sri Lanka Navy are conducting a search operation to locate the missing person, while Hikkaduwa Police continues investigations.

I was born and raised 100 yards from Mount Lavinia Beach. For Over quarter century I used to Have seabaths regularly BUT I HAD HUGE RESPECT FOR THE SEA BECAUSE IT CAN KILL YOU!! THERE WAS FEW OCCASIONS I DIP IN THE SEA AT 2AM JUST TO GET SOBER. BUT ALL ALONG I KNEW WHAT I WAS DOING, NEVER TOOK A RISK!!!
