Cabraal denies paying Rs. 1.84 Billion in Greek Bond case

March 11 (Daily Mirror) - Former Central Bank Governor Ajith Nivard Cabraal has refuted recent social media claims suggesting that he paid Rs. 1.84 billion in connection with the controversial Greek bond case.

Cabraal had previously said that he did not agree to the stipulation requiring him to deposit the sum of Rs. 1,843,267,595.65, and he has consistently maintained his innocence regarding the matter.

The Colombo High Court recently released Cabraal on conditional terms after the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) withdrew the indictments filed against him under the Bribery Act.

According to the arrangement proposed by the Bribery Commission, Cabraal was required to remit the aforementioned Rs. 1,843,267,595.65 to a specific Central Bank account within a three-month period.
