The Cabinet of Ministers have granted approval to increase the payment given to families of the disappeared from Rs. 100,000 to Rs. 200,000.

Minister of Justice, Prisons Affairs and Constitutional Reforms had submitted the Cabinet proposals considering the fact that the payment of Rs. 100,000 is insufficient.

If someone has lost the breadwinner of the family with children, what you can do with 200,000??. This is an eyewash to please UNHRC. An inclusive reconciliation (possibly the Ruwandan model) should be studied.

Those families never asked for compensation. Only thing they wanted to know is what happened to their family members who were handed over to the security personnel at the end of the war. Any answers?

This payment can only mean it is an interim means of sustenance provided by the Government UNTIL an impartial investigation is made as to where these lost persons are and if they met an untimely death how and by whom should be published. Those culprits should be brought to FAIR justice and punished. When the former president and PM are the main culprits what else can a third rate country do except to keep covering and deny justice to those in need of this commodity.
