Cabinet approves new commissioner general of Registration of Persons

Colombo, April 7 (Daily Mirror) - The Cabinet has approved the appointment of a new Commissioner General of Registration of Persons to fill the existing vacancy in the Department of Registration of Persons.

At present, an Additional Secretary to the Ministry of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs has been performing the duties of the post on an acting basis. However, considering the department’s day-to-day operations and the need to expedite the issuance of the Sri Lanka Identity Digital Identity Card, authorities determined that a permanent appointment was necessary.

Accordingly, the proposal submitted by the President in his capacity as Minister of Digital Economy was approved by the Cabinet to appoint Mr. H. M. J. M. Herath, a Special Grade Officer of the Sri Lanka Administrative Service, to the position.

Mr. Herath is currently serving as the District Secretary and Government Agent of Kegalle District. The appointment is expected to strengthen administrative efficiency and accelerate key digital identity initiatives.
