Cabinet approves new appointments to key government posts

Colombo, Jan 21 (Daily Mirror) - The Cabinet of Ministers approved the appointment of two Commissioners to the Lands and Agriculture sectors and the Director General for the Department of Civil Defense.

R.A. Chandana Saman Ranaweera Arachchi, a Special Grade officer of the Sri Lanka Administrative Service (SLAS), currently serving as the Additional Secretary (Administration) in the Ministry of Public Administration, Home Affairs, Provincial Councils and Local Governments, has been recognised as an eligible candidate for the position of Commissioner General of Lands.

The Cabinet approved the proposal from the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Lands and Irrigation to appoint him to this post.

In addition, the Cabinet approved the appointment of Dr. Ms. E.R.S.P. Edirimanne as the new Commissioner General of Agriculture. This appointment follows the scheduled retirement of Ms. K.N.S. Ranathunge, the current Commissioner General, on 21 January 2025.

Meanwhile, the post of Director General of the Department of Civil Defense has remained vacant since 1st January 2025. 

In response, Major General (Rtd.) K.H.P. Palitha Fernando has been appointed to the position on a contract basis for a period of one year, effective immediately.
