Colombo, July 28 (Daily Mirror) - The Cabinet of Ministers has granted approval to a proposal presented by the Minister of Transport, Highways, and Urban Development to implement the procurement process and select a suitable contractor for the first phase of the Ruwanpura Expressway Project.
This initial phase involves the construction of the road section stretching from Kahathuduwa to Ingiriya, which also includes the development of a bridge interchange at Kahathuduwa. The Road Development Authority (RDA) has mapped out plans to complete the procurement process and officially award the construction contracts within the year 2026.
The project is set to be implemented at an estimated cost of approximately Rs. 15 billion. According to the approved proposal, these expenses will be covered by domestic funds allocated from the approved budgetary provisions for the year 2026.
